Quadrat Trap Data Set of Insects.

For the purposes of grading in BIOL2050 lab #3, data was taken at 2 locations within the York University Keele Campus under the supervision of Teaching Assistant Bailey Hewitt.The first location is called the grassland where the area is short-cutted grassed with very low amounts of trees, and the second location is the woodlot where the area is filled with all trees and the floor is covered mainly of wood chips and soil. The experiment took place from 3:30pm to 5:30 pm on September 28, 2015. The weather during that time was very cloudy, and the temperature was around 19 degrees celcius. This dataset was collected by a group of 4 named Sufyan, Alex, Elaine, and Abera. Data was obtained using the Quadrat trap technique which means placing a 1m x 1m metal square frame on the floor at random and counting (with the human eye) the number of insects, as well as the number of different recognizable taxonomic units within the frame area in 1 min intervals.This data suggests that there are more number of insects(average = 12.2) within the woodlot than the grassland but there are more rtu's present(average = 3) in grassland than there are in the woodlot. There are many discrepancies with this dataset such as seeing many rtu's in grassland due to the insects being easily detectable compared to in the woodlot, human error, sample size being too small, which would make this dataset an unreliable source.
