Plasmodium vivax is the most prevalent species responsible for malaria in humans outside Africa but little is known about its evolutionary history. The recent discovery of its closest relative species infecting African great apes, Plasmodium vivax-like, allows us to get a better understanding of its evolution. We generated in this study two draft genome assemblies of P. vivax-like using long and short read sequence technologies to unravel the evolutionary history of P. vivax.
