资源简介:
This is my grandfather (my father's father) Harry Bowman Jackson who came from Leyland in Lancashire and went to South Africa with the Leyland Paint and Varnish Company. He joined the Transvaal Scottish Regiment and died of Spanish Flu in October 1918 in barracks at Woking. His brother Will was in the same Regiment and died a few days later in the same barracks, also of Spanish Flu. They are both remembered on the War Memorial in their home town of Leyland (Lancashire) On the back it says: 'To Allan from Daddy 1918' His regimental details: Private No: 19741 4th Regiment, South African Infantry (South African Scottish) Transvaal Scottish Regiment. Born 14th February 1883 Died 22nd October 1918 I am not sure if he even saw any action although his regiment was quite busy in France. He was an incredibly fit and handsome man and left a widow, two sons and a daughter who was born six months after his death. Editor's Comment: Pte. Harry Bowman Jackson is buried in Leyland (St. Andrew) Churchyard. His brother, Pte. 22128 William Jackson, 4th Regt. South African Infantry, died 24th October 1918, and is also buried in St. Andrew's Churchyard.
