Brucella in alpha-2 subdivision of the proteobacteria are important pathogens in humans and animals. Brucella melitensis NI was originally isolated from the infected cattle in Inner Mongolia of China. The isolate was identified as Brucella melitensis biovar 3. By biological genetic technology, it has been transformed into a good vaccine candidate in vaccination of cattle against brucellosis.
