Investment of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi into intraradical and extraradical biomass is phylogenetically conserved and structures arbuscular mycorrhizal fungal communities

This study introduces the arbuscular mycorrhizal fungal biomass allocation index (AMF-BAI), a novel quantitative trait that describes the preferential investment of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungal taxa in intraradical versus extraradical biomass. The index was derived from data compiled in the GlobalAMFungi database and used to predict changes in AM fungal community composition in response to soil disturbance caused by tillage.
