The objective of the flight experiment is to study the hydrodynamics of packed beds in microgravity and under different conditions that lead to different flow regimes. The hydrodynamics consists of the pressure drop inside the packed bed and the liquid hold-up. The different regimes are the results of different liquid and gas flow rates, and different initial conditions embodied by gas and liquid pre-flows or flushes prior to beginning of the runs. Another objective of the experiment was to understand transient flow rates and the hysteresis in the pressure drop as a function of the flow rates.
