Organic carbon and its diagenetic losses in bottom sediments from the Bering Sea

New data obtained in a shipboard laboratory are used to illustrate effect exerted by lithology of enclosing rock and by early diagenesis on residu¬al organic carbon content of Holocene deposits on the northwestern Bering Sea shelf. Loss of organic carbon is found to total 8-12% in the upper 10-15 cm of sediments and about 22% in the upper 1 m that agrees with data obtained for other areas by independent methods.本研究借助船载实验室获取的新数据，阐明了围岩石岩性与早期成岩作用（early diagenesis）对白令海西北陆架全新世沉积（Holocene deposits）残余有机碳（residual organic carbon）含量的影响。研究发现，沉积物上部10~15 cm范围内的有机碳总损失率为8%~12%，上部1 m区间内的有机碳损失率约为22%，该结果与其他地区通过独立方法获取的观测数据一致。
