BRISWA 2.0 Survey Dataset on Racism, Discrimination, and Inclusion in Higher Education

This dataset contains cleaned survey responses collected within the framework of the BRISWA 2.0 project, “The Ball Rolls in the Same Way for All in Higher Education” — Grant Agreement: 2023-1-IT02-KA220-HED. The objective of the survey was to collect data and opinions on the educational needs of university communities regarding the management of racism, racial discrimination, cultural diversity, and inclusion. The survey was designed to support the development of a specialized educational course on racism and the creation of innovative pedagogical tools that promote equity, inclusion, and intercultural understanding in higher education. The target population included three key groups within university communities: students, teachers and academic staff, and sports coaches or staff involved in physical and sports-related activities. The survey gathered information on participants’ demographic characteristics, experiences and perceptions of cultural adaptation, experiences of racial discrimination, institutional support, cultural sensitivity, interaction with people from different cultural backgrounds, understanding of racism, perceived effectiveness of educational programmes, and the importance of self-education and self-reflection in anti-racist pedagogy. The questionnaire was implemented through Google Forms and used a mixed design combining closed questions, Likert-type scales, multiple-choice questions, and open-ended responses. Before analysis, responses were translated into English where necessary, categorized, grouped, and cleaned in preparation for statistical analysis using Jamovi. The cleaning process included the correction of inconsistencies caused by skip-logic errors, for example cases where follow-up questions had been answered despite a previous negative response. The uploaded dataset consists of 102 anonymized responses and 22 variables. The variables are numerically coded and cover demographic characteristics, cultural adaptation, experiences of racial discrimination, perceived assistance and institutional support, perceptions of cultural diversity and racism in educational programmes, understanding of racism, perceived inclusion policies, and views on the effectiveness of educational programmes. Missing values may reflect questionnaire routing, non-response, or data-cleaning decisions. The data were collected through non-probabilistic convenience sampling. Therefore, the dataset should be understood as exploratory needs-assessment data rather than as a statistically representative sample of all higher education communities. It is intended to support research, curriculum design, pedagogical innovation, and institutional reflection on racism, inclusion, and intercultural education in higher education contexts. All responses were processed anonymously and used exclusively for statistical and research purposes related to the BRISWA 2.0 project.
