Satellite images and Optical Image Correlation (OIC) dataset of Boccassuolo landslide evolution

This dataset supports the study “Satellite-based investigation of the spring 2025 Boccassuolo Landslide, Northern Apennines (Italy)”, published in the Landslides Journal (Notti et al., 2026). It provides satellite-derived products and ancillary data used to analyze the evolution of the Boccassuolo landslide, a large mass movement that occurred in spring 2025 in the municipality of Palagano (Modena Province, northern Italy), approximately 1.5 km south of the Boccassuolo hamlet. The landslide initiated in late March 2025 as a rotational slide on the southeastern slope of Monte Cantiere and rapidly evolved into an earth flow. This process subsequently triggered a large earth slide involving the entire slope down to the Dragone Stream. The landslide remained active until mid-June 2025 and currently appears to be in a suspended state. The affected area extends for approximately 3.5 km in length and up to 500 m in width, with an estimated volume of about 3.5 × 10⁶ m³. Multitemporal PlanetScope and Sentinel-2 imagery were processed using the Local Adaptive Multiscale Image Matching Algorithm (LAMMA) (Dematteis et al., 2022) to derive Optical Image Correlation (OIC) displacement fields. The dataset (zipped file) includes the following files, all provided in EPSG:32632 coordinate reference system: Sentinel-2 imagery clipped on AOI:9 clipped composite images at 10 m spatial resolution (RGB + NIR) for the dates:2024-06-01, 2025-03-23, 2025-03-31, 2025-04-04, 2025-05-02, 2025-05-15, 2025-06-04, and 2025-07-09 (GeoTIFF format). PlanetScope imagery clipped on AOI: :9 clipped composite images (RGB) for the dates:2025-03-19, 2025-04-04, 2025-04-06, 2025-04-11, 2025-05-02, 2025-05-15, 2025-06-04, 2025-06-30, and 2025-07-30 (GeoTIFF format). Optical Image Correlation (OIC) products:2 displacement maps derived using the LAMMA algorithm (Dematteis et al., 2022), expressed in m/day, for the following time intervals:(1) 2025-04-04 to 2025-04-11(2) 2025-05-02 to 2025-06-04(GeoTIFF format). Landslide boundary polygons:5 vector layers representing landslide extent and classification by type for the dates:2025-03-31, 2025-04-06, 2025-04-11, 2025-05-02, and 2025-06-04 (GPKG format).
