Aspergillus welwitschiae strain:CCMB 674 Genome sequencing and assembly

Aspergillus welwitschiae naturally occurs in the reproductive structures of W. mirabilis from the arid and semi-arid regions where W. mirabilis occurs. Apart from having been reported directly associated with its original substrates and a specific geographic distribution, isolates of A. welwitschiae have also been reported in fresh or dried fruits as well as in bulbs. Furthermore, Aspergillus welwitschiae has also been detected in different environmental substrates, such as outdoor air, indoor dust caves, and even in clinical specimens, causing otomycoses and onychomycoses. These records occur all over the world, in several countries, with distinct climates. Therefore, A. welwitschiae is of high environmental, agricultural and medical importance. Furthermore, it is the species phylogenetically closest to the economically important and ubiquitous Aspergillus niger.
