U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Huntington District archaeological collections were sent to the Veterans Curation Program’s (VCP) Alexandria laboratory in April 2014. The Alexandria VCP laboratory is a USACE, St. Louis District’s Mandatory Center of Expertise for the Curation and Management of Archaeological Collections program, which is staffed through New South Associates (NSA) headquartered in Stone Mountain, Georgia. During the course of this project, the VCP was successively staffed by four different archaeological contracting firms. The Alexandria laboratory was managed by John Milner Associates (JMA) when the USACE, Huntington District collections were received in April 2014. Sorting and data entry were completed in October 2014 under JMA and report writing and photography were started. In April 2015, management was transferred to the Cogstone-Berger Joint Venture, a partnership between two contracting firms, Cogstone Resource Management Inc., headquartered in Orange, California, and the Louis Berger Group, headquartered in Morristown, New Jersey. Photography continued under the Cogstone-Berger JV. In October 2015, management transferred to the ERG-NSA JV, a partnership between two contracting firms, the Environmental Research Group (ERG) of Baltimore, Maryland, and NSA at which time photography and report writing were completed. In October 2017, management transferred once more to NSA during which time report writing and re-boxing were completed and the investigation was finalized.
