Inventory of deadwood volumes and fungal diversity at Krimpelsee, Bremen (Autumn 2025)

Abstract: This dataset was generated as part of a student research project at the Hochschule Bremen (City University of Applied Sciences) in the Winter Semester 2025/26. The study investigates the correlation between deadwood volumes and fungal diversity in an urban lake area ("Krimpelsee") in Bremen, Germany. Data collection took place between October and November 2025. Two distinct sub-areas were surveyed: an undisturbed island area (Area A) and a managed side area (Area B). The methodology involved mapping deadwood (standing and lying >10cm diameter) and fungal fruit bodies within 14 circular plots (r=2.5m). File Structure: deadwood-fungi-krimpelsee-2025.gpkg: A GeoPackage containing spatial vector data (points and lines) for the plots, mapped fungi, and deadwood, including attributes like decay stage and dimensions. deadwood-calculation - raw_lying-deadwood.csv: Raw measurements of lying deadwood used for volume calculation. deadwood-calculation - raw_standing_deadwood.csv: Raw measurements of standing deadwood. fungi-identification - gis-synchro.csv: Metadata on identified fungi, including taxonomy and Red List status. Pilze.zip: Archive of photographic documentation of the fungal specimens found. Plots.zip: Photographic documentation of the surveyed plots. Methodology: Mapping was performed using QGIS and QField. Deadwood volume was calculated using the formula for a truncated cone (lying) and standard forestry formulas (standing). Fungal identification was supported by standard literature and digital tools.
