Water samples were collected with free-flow niskin bottles connected to a CTD rosette. Amplicon sequences of the V3-V4 hypervariable region of the 16S rRNA and 16S rRNA gene were generated with Illumina MiSeq V3. DNA and RNA were extracted using AllPrep DNA/RNA Kit from QIAGEN (Hilden, Germany). Sequencing was done with LGC Genomics (Berlin, Germany).
