VPRS 6165 Record of Correspondence Sent (1864 -1871); Register of Correspondence Received and Dispatched (1894 - 1898)

The volume contains two series of records. The first has been created by either the District Surveyor or the Local Crown Lands Bailiff between 1864 and 1871. Details given are the number given to the matter in the Government Gazette, the name of the person concerned, the location and extent of the land and a summary of the comments of the writer. Matters dealt with are recommendations with respect to the granting of leases under, for example the 'novel industries' provisions of Section 47 Land Act 1862, for the granting of occupation licenses under such provisions as the residence and cultivation regulations, valuations of land proposed for auction and recommendations about applications to purchase and references to surveys of land.The second series in the volume is a register of the inward and outward correspondence of the Ballarat Crown Lands Bailiff. Details given are the date, the reference number (as recorded at the central Melbourne office of the Department of Crown lands and Survey), the name and address of the correspondent, a summary of the subject of the correspondence, a note of the action taken and any further reference numbers or dates. Matters dealt with are the matters relating to reports to be prepared by the Crown Lands Bailiff relating to the valuation of land and improvements and the occupation of portions of land.This series was previously registered as Unit 1 of VPRS 6165/P Registers of Land Applications.
