Alaska Native Place Names

Alaska Native Place Names including translation / pronunciation (if known), Indigenous language source, and audio file of pronunciation if available. Source: Division of Community and Regional Affairs and University of Alaska Fairbanks - specifically under the oversight of the Alaska Native Language Preservation and Advisory Council (now Council for Alaska Native Languages) while it was part of DCRA circa 2017/2018. Largely a static dataset - there have been only a few recent changes to the phonetic versions of the names and none for audio. Phonetic changes can be sometimes supported by specific native language dictionaries if they exist. Audio updates or new recordings need coordination between native speakers and the Council for Alaska Native Languages for recording purposes.
