Simple, low dimensional biophysical models of short term synaptic plasticity are developed and analyzed to caracterize regimes in which combinations of biophysical parameters result in facilitation, depression, or biphasic synaptic responses. The models are constrained by data obtained by recording postsynaptic responses of striatal neurons to cortical and thalamic inputs.
