Two samples from metates recovered at sites LA 49917 and LA 17041 in Eddy County,
New Mexico were examined for pollen and organic residues, the latter using Fourier Transform
Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). Pollen analyses will be used to provide subsistence information
concerning plant resources utilized by the various occupants of these sites. FTIR analyses will
be used to provide information concerning organic residues present on the groundstone.
