Tanana River water-level and sediment data, 2022-2023

This package includes water-level and sediment data collected as part of the SILT project (Sediment, Ice, and Learning on the Tanana). This project was funded by NSF grants GLD 2153778 and 2153779. The dataset was collected by Dr. Emily Eidam (OSU and UNC-Chapel Hill), Dr. Tamlin Pavelsky (UNC-Chapel Hill), Dr. Julianne Davis (UNC-Chapel Hill), Dr. Ted Langhorst (UNC-Chapel Hill and UMass-Amherst), Dr. Chris Arp (UAF), Allen Bondurant (UAF), Dr. Sarah Clement (UAF), Dr. Katie Spellman (UAF), Lillian Cooper (UNC-Chapel Hill), and several volunteers. These data accompany a draft publication entitled "Year-round suspended-sediment measurements and sediment flux estimates using low-cost, open-source sensors in a subarctic river (Tanana River, Alaska)" by Eidam et al. The files include one Excel file of water-column profiles of mean particle diameter, volume concentration, and total suspended solids concentration collected at six sites (in three general locations) along the Tanana River in October 2022. The remaining files include text files of water levels and turbidities - and in some cases total suspended solids - from several mooring sites that the team designed, built, and deployed. Dates are in Matlab serial date format (days since Jan 1, 1900). Turbidities are in nephelometric turbidity units. Total suspended solids (TSS) values are in miligrams per liter. Water levels are in meters. Water levels were converted from pressure measurements by subtracting atmospheric pressure. One file contains median particle diameters predicted by an equation given in Burrows et al., 1979 (Burrows, R. L., Parks, B., & Emmett, W. W. (1979).
