资源简介:
This article examines the division of labor among political scientists during different moments of Covid-19 using data from surveys of the academic community. We probe the hypothesis that the pandemic has increased inequalities, especially by exacerbating the burden of housework and care responsibilities for women. We ground our analysis on the results of two surveys carried out in Brazil: one conducted shortly after the outset of the pandemic, in June 2020, and the other, from March 2022, following the lifting of social isolation measures. The country is a relevant case study because it was an epicenter of the virus for months. This public health crisis also occurred while a denialist and authoritarian government were in power. Controlling gender and race variables, the data show a transformation of the dynamics of time organization over the period: at the beginning of the pandemic, men, primarily white men, devoted more time to academic work; in 2022, the most substantive difference is one of race. We observe a greater convergence among white people, as opposed to black people, about household chores, with the second group being more overloaded than the former.
