Bacterial communities on suspended particles at nearshore Lake Superior and the Duluth-Superior Harbor Raw sequence reads

By utilizing modern molecular microbiology methods, this study will provide more comprehensive information regarding aquatic bacterial communities, particularly aggregate-associated bacterial communities in freshwater environments. In addition, the laboratory experiment will enhance our understanding of island biogeography in the microscopic scale and provide more information about the processes of re-colonization and succession of bacteria species on aggregates. The structure and composition of free-living and aggregate-associated bacterial communities in near shore areas of Lake Superior and the Duluth-Superior Harbor will be comprehensively evaluated, which should provide useful for managing healthy and sustainable near shore lake and urban harbor ecosystems.
