Numerous studies have been conducted on Mirror Lake
since the mid-1960s, including extensive physical, chemical,
biological, and paleoecological research (Likens 1985). This
data set includes thermal profiles consisting of temperatures
measured at discrete depths. Measurements were made using a
hand-held instrument from a boat at an anchored buoy station
located at the deepest part (11 m at full pool) of Mirror
Lake during the open water (ice-free) season. These data were gathered as part of the Hubbard Brook
Ecosystem Study (HBES). The HBES is a collaborative effort at
the Hubbard Brook Experimental Forest, which is operated and
maintained by the USDA Forest Service, Northern Research
Station.
