Neonatal hyperbilirubinemia skin expression

Neonatal hyperbilirubinemia is one of the sig- nificant conditions that must have an early diagnosis in newborns. Accordingly, kernicterus or chronic bilirubin encephalopathy is a devastating consequence of severe bilirubinemia and caused permanent brain damage and long-term disability in children. Traditionally, blood test- ing for total serum bilirubin (TSB) levels is a standard procedure for the clinical unit to identify a hyperbiliru- binemia condition. However, presently self-vital monitoring and diagnosis tools are forereaching and favorable for individual symptoms observation. This paper discusses an appropriate region on a newborn’s body for retrieving skin coloration by using a smartphone’s camera in three body regions: the forehead, the chest, and the torso from 330 participants from January 2020 to June 2022 arise at the Department of Pediatrics, Faculty of Medicine, Chiang Mai University, Chiang Mai, Thailand, and research collaboration with the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Engineering, National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, Taipei, Taiwan.
