Japan Station Master, Ridership & Housing Vacancy — Canonical Open Datasets

Three combinable, maintained open datasets on Japanese public infrastructure, sharing common join keys (station_id / municipality_code): 1. Japan Station Master — entity-resolved, nationwide: 9,145 physical stations. One row per physical station across operators (e.g. Shinjuku resolved to a single entity across JR East, Keio, Odakyu, Seibu, Tokyo Metro and Toei — 6 companies, 1 ID). English names with full provenance flags (name_source: odpt / wikidata / romanized), per-operator source records preserved in station_members.csv, and a merge-confidence review file for the 51 pairs we did not auto-merge. 2. Japan Station Ridership 2000–2025 — 292 stations (Greater Tokyo, ODPT sources), annual series through the COVID collapse and recovery. station_id joins directly to the Station Master. Nationwide expansion planned via MLIT sources. 3. Japan Municipality Housing Vacancy 2003–2023 — 1,653 municipalities across five national Housing and Land Surveys (Statistics Bureau of Japan). Official counts verbatim (total dwellings, vacant total, and the "neglected vacancy" series behind Japan's 9-million-akiya story), with a municipal-merger crosswalk (平成の大合併) instead of a force-merged time series, and a bridge to the nearest station (station_id + distance). Principles: frozen schemas, tidy format, no silent rewrites of published values (validated at build), machine-readable metadata, full source attribution, and reproducible builds (byte-identical on rebuild).
