This research study estimates the upper critical thermal limits (Critical Thermal Maximum (CTmax) and Heat Coma Temperature (HCT)), of Bombus terrestris audax and investigates whether the critical thermal maxima of experimental individuals is modified following exposure to simulated heat waves of different magnitude. CTmax was recorded between 48.9-52.7 ºC, while the HCT ranged between 50.7-53.4 ºC. The upper thermal limits of bumblebee workers decreased significantly after being exposed to a single heat wave of 34-36 ºC, while individuals exposed to a heat wave of 30-32 ºC showed no significant changes in their thermal tolerance. This indicates that B. terrestris lacks a capacity to acclimate in the face of extreme weather events. This file includes the protocols used for the measurement of thermal tolerance and acclimation capacity of bumblebee workers. Furthermore, it includes the available data regarding thermal tolerance (CTmax) values and codes that were used for the analyses.
