Clinical and bacteriological assessment of perioperative oral management with professional oral care and antibacterial self-care agents : a Randomized Clinical Trial

Perioperative Oral Management: POM has been reported to reduce the risk of postoperative wound infection and pneumonia. Currently, we recommend povidone iodine (PVP-I) gargle to patients to keep the oral cavity clean, but there is a concern that dilution and saliva may reduce the bactericidal activity of PVP-I. On the other hand, cetylpyridinium chloride (CPC) mouthwash is used as an oral hygiene product for the prevention of gingival inflammation, and it has been reported that it is less susceptible to dilution and saliva than PVP-I. Therefore, in this study, in order to evaluate the effect of CPC mouthwash clinically and bacteriologically, we conducted a randomized controlled trial using PVP-I gargle as a control.
