This professional scientific data resource was developed for the conservation, restoration and microbial corrosion mechanism research of palm-leaf manuscripts. It is derived from systematic sampling and analysis of the collected palm-leaf manuscripts housed in the Potala Palace and Kunming Museum, conducted between August 2023 and June 2024. The dataset was jointly developed by the National Museum of China and Beijing Liuhe Huada Genomics Technology Co., Ltd. Data was acquired via a standardized workflow encompassing sampling, mold cultivation, isolation and purification, and molecular biological identification. Unified culture conditions and standardized test methods were employed to ensure data comparability, and all sequencing results were validated through sequence alignment, thus providing high-quality empirical evidence for the prevention and control of mold-induced deterioration of palm-leaf manuscripts.
The dataset primarily consists of two categories of content: 1. Microscopic images of mold contaminants on palm-leaf manuscripts, which capture the microscopic morphological features of molds on the surfaces of various sample fragments; 2. Mold detection data files, which thoroughly document core information including sample names, colony numbers, Latin and Chinese names of homologous strains identified through sequence alignment, and sequence identity percentage, achieving the organic integration of morphological and molecular biological data.
This dataset not only fills the gap in systematic detection data for mold contamination of palm-leaf manuscripts, but also holds significant academic value and practical guiding significance for studying the mold deterioration mechanisms of palm-leaf manuscripts under different climatic environments in the plateau and southern regions, screening effective control strains, and establishing monitoring standards for cultural heritage microenvironments. It can provide key scientific support for the formulation of preventive conservation strategies and the research and development of conservation technologies.
