Biofilm community succession in baseflow and post-storm conditions

To examine the formation and succession of microbial rock biofilms, we used artificial streams in which biofilm communities were first developed to mature stages and then exposed to flooding conditions (higher flow velocity and sediment load) of contrasting intensity. Over a 6-week period, bacteria and archaeal community DNA was monitored using 16S rRNA genes.
