VPRS 15501 Corporal Punishment Record Book

Series comprises a record book of prisoners sentenced to corporal punishment. Upon conviction a notice of the punishment was sent to the Sheriff and entered in this record book. The Sheriff then used this record to administer the punishment arrangements (whipping, birching) and any appeals against the punishment.Details recorded include the prisoner name, number (located in VPRS 515 Central Register of Male Prisoners), sentence, offence, where convicted, date of conviction, judge or magistrate, record of appeals, and outcome of appeals, date punishment inflicted.If the prisoner appealed the punishment some entries include references to Chief Secretary's Department correspondence, Law Department correspondence and Executive Council minutes.There are several loose papers placed at the back of the unit 1 including,- commission of release of cargo- receipts for payments for assisting in arrest- warrant writs of Fieri Facias
