Comparative genomics and characterization of Enterococcus faecalis wound isolates

Enterococcus faecalis is frequently isolated from wounds, but its pathogenesis in this niche remains understudied. One approach to better understand pathogenic factors required for wound infection is to identify genes enriched in Enterococcus clinical isolates. Therefore, we collected and surveyed genotypic characteristics of 49 E. faecalis clinical wound isolates from Tan Tock Seng hospital, Singapore. Phylogenetic analyses revealed that majority of E. faecalis strains isolated from human wounds clustered in 2 different ST groups, the CC2/6 and ST16/179.
