Variation near the TMEM18 gene has been significantly associated with increased body mass in multiple human genome-wide association studies. As appetite and metabolism is largely controlled by hypothalamic neurons, we extracted RNA from the hypothalamus of Tmem18 knockout and control mice. After generating cDNA, we carried out paired-end RNA sequencing on the Illumina platform.
