Genome sequence of Lacticaseibacillus paracasei TOKAI 83m.

Lacticaseibacillus paracasei species is one of the Lactobacillus casei group, and this group is commonly studied due to its commercial, industrial, and applied health potential (D. Hill et al., Front. Microbiol., 9, 2107, 2018). Currently, in Japan, the potential of L. paracasei, including the Shirota strain, as a probiotic is attracting attention (T. Naito et al., Bioscience of Microbiota, Food and Health, 42(1), 65-72, 2023) (E. Naito et al., Bioscience of Microbiota, Food and Health, 2025). Our previous studies indicated that L. paracasei TOKAI 83m (TK 83m) has a high adsorption potential for heavy metals (H. Kinoshita et al., Milk Science, 69(1), 11-20, 2020). However, the entire genome of TK 83m was not deciphered in the above study. Therefore, in this experiment, we performed whole-genome sequencing of TK 83m. In the future, we plan to further examine and evaluate the functionality of this strain based on the whole genome data.
