Arctic thermokarst lake to lagoon transition and its impact on microbiomes and methane output

Thermokarst lagoons in the pan-arctic regions represent the intermediate state between thermokarst lake and subsea permafrost. The intrusion of marine saline water can lead to great shift in geochemical feature, microbial community structure and functions, as well as greenhouse gas emissions. This study compares microbiomes of freshwater thermorkast lakes and a thermokarst lagoon and investigate their link with permafrost carbon release.
