Department store employee numbers in Japan 2013-2022

In 2022, around 58 thousand people were employed at Japanese department stores, down from over 61 thousand people in the previous year. The retail market is one of the largest employers in the tertiary sector in Japan, but the number of people working at department stores hit a decade-low in 2022.
