Bacterial Pigment against gram negative pathogen

In this project, we worked with Pigment formers. They can affect the fitness of Acinetobacter baumannii (Ab) in community culture. Under community biofilms (Ab-Pseudomonas aeruginosa PA14 (Pa) and Ab- Serratia marcescens MTCC4822 (Sm), the fitness of Ab was detected to be attenuated significantly. The screening identified pyocyanine (PCN) and prodigiosin (PDG), which showed antibacterial and antibiofilm action. PCN can target persister cells. Generation of PCN-R mutants and envisioning the cross-resistance and collateral sensitivity (CR-CS) relationship.Analysing SNPs and InDels by whole genome sequencing indicated a mutation in genes encoding atpD and cdsA, among the high confidence variants called.Funded by Science and Engineering Research Board under Start-up Research Grant
