Although highly chlorinated dioxins are xenobiotic and toxic pollutants, they could be rapidly degraded in a hypoxic microcosm. The development of such bioremediation approaches requires an understanding of the microbial community structure; however, this is insufficiently addressed in previous studies. To fill this knowledge gap, we pyrosequenced the V4/V5 regions of the 16S rRNA gene to study the development of bacterial communities transited from the soil of a chronological site contaminated with chlorinated dioxins to batch microcosms in rapidly degrading high concentrations of octachlorodibenzofuran (OCDF).
