This dataset applies geometric correction to the scanned map *Atlas of Snow and Frozen Soil in China (1:4,000,000)* (Shi Yafeng, Mi Desheng, 1988). Following digitization, frozen soils are classified according to permafrost continuity, alongside elevation and latitude considerations, into: large-area continuous permafrost, permafrost with island thawed zones, and isolated island permafrost within high-latitude permafrost regions; as well as high-altitude permafrost and alpine permafrost (including Altai Mountains, Tianshan Mountains, Qilian Mountains, Hengduan Mountains, the Himalayas[the original description is truncated]).
