Balanced development of adaxial and abaxial domains in leaf primordia is critical for the formation of flat symmetric leaf lamina. Leaves develop as lateral organs from the peripheral zone of a shoot apical meristem. The AS1-AS2 is regarded as a key regulator for the proper confinement of the stem cell fate and establishment of the adaxial-abaxial axis in Arabidopsis thaliana. It is important to analyze the molecular mechanisms of epigenetic regulation of direct targets of AS1-AS2 to understand leaf development in dicot.
