Two maize hybrids widely planted in China and with significantly different heat tolerance, Zhengdan 958 (ZD958, heat tolerant) and Xianyu 335 (XY335, heat sensitive), were selected for the field experiment. Heat stress (38/28) was applied for 5 consecutive days at the tetrad (V11), unicellular (V13), bicellular (V15) and tricellular stage (VT), respectively. The control group was kept at an average temperature of 30/25. After 54 hours of heat stress at each stage, the anthers were collected for transcriptome profile analysis.
