Carnivorous fish species, such as the Florida pompano (Trachinotus carolinus L), currently require expensive and unsustainable feed in order to be raised in an aquaculture setting. A waste product of the black soldier fly, frass, has potential to be an alternative carbohydrate source for these fish. The study aims to assess the potential of frass to mimic the growth, body, composition, and intestinal microbiome of pompano. Four experimental diets were formulated containing three different levels of frass and one control diet. The gut microbiota was assessed by employing 16S rRNA V4-V5 amplicon sequencing via515F and 926R primer set.
