One new 3D porous metal-organic framework {[Zn(ox)<sub>0.5</sub>(trz)]·0.25H<sub>2</sub>O}<sub><i>n</i></sub> (1) [trz = 1,2,4-triazole, ox = oxalate] has been synthesized under hydrothermal conditions and characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy, single-crystal X-ray crystallography and powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) analysis. The most remarkable structural feature of 1 is that the assembly of the Zn–trz 2D layers and the ox molecule pillars result in the formation of 3D Pillared-layer dmc framework showing porous and helical character. In addition, thermal stability and the luminescent property of the complex have been investigated.
