Intergenerational Circularity: Unlocking Elderly Knowledge for a Circular Economy Nice - France

This dataset was produced within the framework of the Intergenerational Circularity project, a citizen science initiative conducted in Nice, France, as part of the IMPETUS programme. The project aimed to explore how circular skills such as repair, maintenance, reuse, and upcycling are acquired, practiced, and transmitted across generations, with a particular focus on older adults (65+) and younger adults (18–35). The dataset consists of three complementary and anonymised data collections combining quantitative and qualitative methods. First, it includes pre- and post-project online assessment questionnaires completed by senior and junior citizen scientists, capturing attitudes towards intergenerational exchange, perceived closeness between generations, wellbeing indicators, and perceived learning outcomes. Second, it contains a quantitative survey targeting younger participants, documenting their current circular practices, skill gaps, learning interests, and willingness to engage in intergenerational learning. Third, the dataset includes qualitative data collected through semi-structured discussion guides with older participants, documenting the circular skills they possess, how these skills were acquired, and their motivations and constraints regarding skill transmission. Data collection was carried out by trained citizen scientists within their personal and local networks, enabling access to populations that are often underrepresented in sustainability research. All data have been fully anonymised in accordance with ethical requirements and data protection regulations. The dataset is intended to support further research on the social and behavioural dimensions of the circular economy, intergenerational knowledge transmission, and citizen science methodologies, and can be reused for comparative, exploratory, or methodological purposes.
