Genetic variants of MUC4 are associated with prevalence and mortality of colorectal cancer and exhibit synergistic effects with LDL-C levels

The data included 884 individuals including 424 controls and 464 CRC patients. Patients had histologically-proven adenocarcinoma, and had undergone surgical resection with curative intent. The patients included 260 colon cancer patients, 192 rectal cancer patients, and 12 consecutive patients with unclassified colorectal cancer who had undergone primary surgery. All participants were Korean. TaqMan allele discrimination analysis was used to analyze <em>MUC4</em> genotypes and sequencing was performed to confirm the results. The concordance between the experimental results and randomly repeated samples was 100%.
