Background: This study has two primary objectives: first, it aims to investigate the potential positive influence of EI on safety performance, especially in high-risk occupations like aviation, and to provide valuable insights that can be applied to enhance safety. Second, it seeks to provide empirical evidence regarding the variability of EI’s impact on safety performance by exploring mediation pathways and context factors to offer practical suggestions that can be applied to enhance employee development in these critical industries. The Ethics approval number for this study is H6823.
Methods: Both paper-based and online questionnaires were employed to collect data to accommodate participants' preferences. The questionnaire employed in this study consisted of two rounds. These two-wave surveys were implemented between May 2017 and September 2017. The thesis consists of three studies. The participants for Study 1 were full-time pilot trainees from two flight training schools in mainland China. For Study 2 and Study 3, the participants were full-time pilots working in Chinese airline companies.
This data record contains:
1 x Excel (.xlsx) file containing a comprehensive overview of the variables and measurements utilized in this thesis.
2 x Excel (.xlsx) files containing the raw data collected from surveys administered at flight training schools and airline companies.
