HDRL's 2026 Status on the Desirable Characteristics of Data Repositories for Federally Funding Research

We have combined the characteristics from sections V.A., appendix D, and other portions applicable to science data repositories in SPD-41a into a single spreadsheet for a simple way to indicate our status on each characteristic with a brief description supporting that status. Matches between characteristics from different areas of the policy share the same row on the spreadsheet. This structure and matching was positively reviewed by other subject matter experts at the 2024 SMD Data Repository Workshop (Ringuette, Downs & Morgan 2024; https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.14207399). At that time, we presented an overview on HDRL’s progress on those characteristics (Ringuette et al. 2024; https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.14207355). We have since improved our status on various characteristics, which are indicated in this spreadsheet. The first four columns give the descriptions of the characteristics copied from the relevant policies. Each pair of subsequent columns shows the status and associated description for DISH (previously HDMC), SPDF, and SDAC.
