资源简介:

This dataset offers a rich compilation of data on Mediterranean Old-Growth Forests (OGFs), with a particular focus on forest structure, topographic features, and floral composition. It is designed to support ecological research, conservation initiatives, and forest management strategies within the Mediterranean region, a key area for biodiversity conservation. The dataset encompasses the following core components: Forest Structure: A detailed array of quantitative metrics capturing forest complexity, such as tree density, canopy cover, and the presence of deadwood. These attributes provide insights into the heterogeneity and ecological dynamics of the forests. Topography: Comprehensive topographic data, including elevation, slope, and aspect, all of which play pivotal roles in shaping forest structure and influencing the distribution of plant communities within these ecosystems. Flora: A comprehensive inventory of vascular plant species found across the study sites, which offers critical information on plant community composition. This component provides insights into how forest structure and topographic gradients may influence species distribution and diversity. This dataset was meticulously collected through collaboration between: University of Basilicata (Department of Agricultural, Forest, Food, and Environmental Sciences), University of Calabria (Department of Biology, Ecology and Earth Sciences; Botanical Experts), and Technicians from the Pollino National Park. The data collection took place during the initial phase of the project "Constitution of the Network of Old-Growth Forests in the National Parks of Southern Apennines" (2012–2017). This project aimed to document and assess the ecological attributes of Mediterranean OGFs and evaluate their conservation status. The dataset serves as a foundational resource for advancing our understanding of the complex interplay between forest structure, topography, and biodiversity in Mediterranean ecosystems. It is invaluable for researchers, conservationists, and forest managers interested in examining the role of environmental factors in shaping these ancient, biodiverse ecosystems.
