Methods are provided for preparing a surface-treated fibrous material comprising phosphorylated nanocellulose， in which a fibrous material is surface treated with a solution comprising at least one multivalent metal ion followed by drying and post-curing of the fibrous material to improve the Oxygen Transmission Rate of the surface-treated fibrous material.
