Marine heterotrophic bacteria have developed abilities to grow on diverse algal polysaccharides such as sulfated galactans, agars, carrageenans, fucoidans, alginate and laminarin.We set up a genomics approach in order to identify and compare algal polysaccharides catabolic pathways among different bacterial phyla.
