Potential Wild Turkey Range in Vermont

<p>This map documents Vermont’s 1969 wild turkey restoration project, initiated with the live capture of birds in Allegany State Park, New York, and their release at two introduction sites in Pawlet and Hubbardton. Subsequent translocations expanded the re‑established population statewide. Included are layers representing Vermont’s initial spring turkey hunting zones for 1973 and 1974:</p><p><strong>1973 Spring Hunting Zones (A–C):</strong> Three restricted management zones centered on the original release area. Access was limited to residents using lottery-issued permits. Zone A (yellow), Zone B (blue), Zone C (orange).</p><p><strong>1974 Spring Hunting Zones (A–D):</strong> A fourth zone was added as population growth supported expanded harvest opportunity, increasing huntable area from ~745 to &gt;1,000 square miles. Zone A (yellow), Zone B (blue), Zone C (orange), Zone D (blue).</p><p>A layer showing the current occupied wild turkey range is also included.</p>
