This study investigated bacterial consortia's temporal changes and functional adaptations during their adaptation to lignocellulosic biomass degradation. The research addresses a critical challenge in sustainable energy production: the efficient breakdown of lignocellulosic biomass, a prevalent agro-industrial residue with a complex structure that holds up its utilization. Using 16S rRNA gene metabarcoding, the researchers analyzed Amplicon Sequence Variants at different time points to track changes in bacterial composition, diversity, network interactions and predicted functions during early and late adaptation stages.
