NRS-12650 | State Dockyard ("SD") files

The State Dockyard, established in the early 1940s, was originally under the general management of the State Dockyard Board, which consisted of seven persons appointed by the Governor, and was subject to the control and direction of the Minister for Public Works and Ports. In 1982 the positions of Chairman and General Manager were separated and the Director of Public Works was appointed head of the State Dockyard in lieu of the Chairman. In January 1982, as a result of these changes, revised procedures were introduced for handling State Dockyard matters in Head Office, and all files registered in "O" (staff), "R" (Rivers and Ports) and "Misc" (Miscellaneous) file registries were brought within a single "SD" (State Dockyard) registry and maintained in the Secretariat. These files include most of the records registered under the "SD" registry, and deal will many significant matters relating to the management and administration of the State Dockyard, including minutes of meetings of the State Dockyard Board. The files contain correspondence and papers dating from 1941.(18/988-97, 18/1087). 11 boxes. Note: This description is extracted from Concise Guide to the State Archives of New South Wales, 3rd Edition 2000.
